Public Education Against America: The Hidden Agenda

03/31/2006

While American wasn’t looking, reading, writing and arithmetic were largely replaced by moral relativism and secular humanism in our high schools and universities.

This manipulation of the values and belief of the next generation is not an accident or due to incompetence -- it is a deliberate assault on the spiritual and moral compass of America’s children.

Excerpt from Public Education Against America:

Sometime in the 1980s, an article in a Dallas newspaper caught my attention about a local woman who was accusing the public school system of undermining children’s Christian values. I was somewhat amused when I read the story.

According to the article, the woman claimed that there was a carefully devised plan being executed to hijack our education system and use it to manipulate our children’s values and beliefs. To be perfectly honest, I thought the woman was some kind of nutcase. But I was impressed by her audacity, so I invited her to appear on Point of View to talk about it.

I was totally unprepared for what was about to happen.

The lady was Jo Ann McCauley, a former schoolteacher. On the air, I introduced Mrs. McCauley and asked her to tell us why she was so upset over the issue of school textbooks.

In her soft, gentle manner, she explained that her fifth-grade son was working on a history project and needed some help. Casually thumbing through the pages of his history textbook, she was bewildered to see that the publisher had given a page and a half to Marilyn Monroe, but only one small paragraph to George Washington. As a former history minor in college, this information disturbed her.

Her curiosity aroused, she wondered what kind of emphasis might be in some of the other textbooks. Determined to find out, she spent the next six months in intensive research, becoming deeply concerned about what she found. Like most Americans, she had assumed that our schools were reinforcing home-taught Christian values. But she had been wrong.

I listened intently as she unveiled a frightening and bizarre scheme being carried out by the educational establishment to totally transform American society by using the public schools as their chief instrument. She said the schools were being used to systematically alter the moral values of our children by undermining patriotism and love of country, denigrating the free enterprise system, fostering dependence upon the federal government, and creating a new society based on what she called “secular humanism.” It was the worst of all crimes: willfully manipulating the religious and moral beliefs of children, without their parent’s knowledge or consent.

“How?” I asked bluntly. “How could a handful of educational elitists bring about such a shift in the thinking and values of an entire nation?” It was a question she was eager to tackle.

“To instill accepted values requires that the child first be desensitized to changing his values.” She explained that the schools were using a three-step program to accomplish the psychological changes in the children: “First, they must unfreeze the child’s home-taught values and standards of moral conduct at the earliest possible age. They must break the value system children bring with them to kindergarten and first grade, the value system that was put there by their parents, church, and society.”

“You can’t be serious, Mrs. McCauley,” I said, my voice reeking of skepticism.

“I’ve never been more serious in my life, Mr. Maddoux,” she answered. “You see, once the process of unfreezing the child’s home-taught values is accomplished, the child is in a state of confusion. This is the second step where the school presents the child with different moral standards and a different conception of who he is, where he came from, and what his purpose on earth is.”

“The third and final step is to lock the child into his real self by re-freezing him in his new values and identity. He has now adopted the values prescribed by the educational establishment; these values are based on secular humanism and moral relativism -- and are very anti-Christian. His new values are now in conflict with the values of his parents and his church, leaving a gaping void inside the child’s mind. A void, I might add, the educationists are all too willing to fill. But the change is so subtle that most parents don’t notice until it’s too late.”

I felt my forehead wrinkle into a frown. This was beginning to sound like something out of Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, or Orwell’s 1984. But she was talking about the public school system, right here in the United States! But, so far, I hadn’t been able to refute her evidence. And then a thought struck me -- a terrible thought:

What if she’s right?
