Rowland Companies Completes $2.5-Million Arizona Church Project

06/19/2003

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Rowland Companies, an award-winning Scottsdale, Ariz.-based construction development manager and general contractor, has completed construction on a cutting-edge new church in the nearby city of Peoria.

At Lighthouse Assembly of God, three new buildings were constructed on an existing 20-acre campus. A lobby/fellowship area connects the three new structures -- a classroom building, a kitchen building and a multipurpose hall that also functions as a gym. Glass creates an atrium atmosphere where an area is not bounded by adjacent exterior walls.

The $2.5-million project also features rear-projection video screens and a cutting-edge sound system in the multipurpose building. "The multipurpose hall serves as the congregation's main worship hall in this phase and will function in a variety of other ways when the new worship center is built in future phases," says Project Manager Tom Keilty. The multipurpose hall currently seats 700 and is expandable to 1,000 seats in a future phase.

"Our new facility has taken us to new heights in function, design and quality of construction," says Phil Havener, administrative pastor of Lighthouse. The creation of large common areas has enhanced fellowship and facilitates the development of new relationships. "I hear `Wow!' over and over as people enter the new worship space," Havener adds. "The new space is not just more modern and beautiful but creates an open and free feeling when you enter."

Lighthouse has been nominated for an American Institute of Architects (AIA) Design Award. Architects say the project was rewarding. "It was exciting to watch the building take shape, especially during the last few weeks, when it quickly went from looking incomplete and dusty to looking clean, polished and fully functioning," says Gary M. DeBartolo, project architect with Phoenix-based CCBG Architects. "Finally experiencing the assembly hall and lobby bustling with people and activities was very fulfilling, with natural light filtering in through the lobby's south wall, visitor center and north clerestory."

Award-winning Rowland Companies specializes in construction of church campuses, health care facilities and hospitals, assisted living and senior housing and commercial and site infrastructure throughout the West and Central U.S. Rowland also maintains an office in Dallas/Fort Worth.
