Young Adults More Spiritual, Distrust ‘Organized Religion’

Fifty-five percent of people ages 12-25 say they are more spiritual now than two years ago, but nearly one-third say they distrust organized religion.

The survey results from the Minneapolis-based Search Institute reveal more about why it is that so many young adults and teenagers are skipping out on going to church these days.

The results of the study will be far-reaching, and not all of them have been released yet, researchers said. Over the past couple of years, the study’s organizers collected data from more than 6,000 young adult participants.

Ninety-three percent of people under 25 said there is a spiritual component to life, but unfortunately, the disconnect between being spiritual and the notion of “church” is growing larger.
