Life In Balance

by Kerry Beaulieu

I know, I know — it’s terrible. I’m embarrassed. But I’m not the finance type! Budgeting and balancing are almost like dirty words to me.

Still, I’m always up for trying new things. That’s why, when my husband asked me to start balancing my checkbook for two weeks, I was up for the challenge.

After that first week, I wondered why the Romans didn’t use the process as ritual torture. I hated it. Every time I went to the store, I had to whip out the checkbook and put my horrible math skills to the test. There was sweating and shaking involved, but I got through it.

On the second week, however, I felt organized. I noticed I was less stressed because I knew exactly how much money was in my account. I felt mature and ready to conquer the world.

OK, maybe I’m exaggerating — but it did feel really good, and I was spending less. I love my husband for pushing me to do it.

So, if you’re like me — or just need some great information on the subject of finance — this is the Church Business you need to read: our first-annual finance issue. We’ve got everything to help you tackle this scary subject. We even spoke with The King of Finance himself, Dave Ramsey! I’m a huge fan of his, and I think he has some great insights about Christians and their money.

So, uh, anyone up for some shopping now?

Peace,
